East Kent BMX was set up in the autumn of 2004 by a group of riders who became involved with the Herne and Broomfield Parish Council BMX track project. Initially they where known as the East Kent BMX Club, the idea being to establish a group who would be able to hold race meetings at the Herne and Broomfield track. East Kent BMX has been a British Cycling affiliated BMX club for the past 2 years, and will continue to be so as we look forward to the track’s construction in 2007.

Although East Kent BMX was originally intended as a BMX racing club, our philosophy has changed dramatically to embrace other forms of BMX riding, mostly on dirt. We decided that, rather than pigeonholing ourselves into the ‘racers’ category, we should also be letting everyone know about the other forms that BMX takes in Kent. After all, the riding that we always done has not solely been made up of racing – it’s quite a small percentage in fact, and in the end what we’re all about just riding your bike for fun. Ride what you want, when you want - don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

So rather than just hanging about out race tracks, you’ll also find us digging down the trails and occasionally hiding from the rain in the local skateparks. We want to encourage the racers to hit up the trails or skatepark once in a while, and likewise we’re going to try our best to get some of those trail riders along to a track (you can ride dirt in winter too guys!)

In accordance with this, our website has now been updated to include everything about BMX in East Kent and further afield. We going to try and make a conscious effort to keep the site updated with all the latest news as well as regular gallery updates to show you the action as it happens. As well as updating this website, the future of East Kent BMX will no doubt include organising more trails jams, with regular race meetings to also begin once Herne Bay BMX track is complete. Our aim is to help increase the profile of BMX riding in Kent, be it through racing or just riding at the trails/skatepark. Get yourself a piece of the action....
