ROUGH COMMON AGAIN

Making the most of the Christmas break (Merry Christmas by the way), Olly and myself have been working on the 4th & 5th at Rough Common today. Bit of a height increase from last year on No.4 - it might now require a bit of dodge the tree, but we'll have wait and see.....No.5 is shaping up to be even better!

PRETTY SHADY DVD

Sooo...the Pretty Shady trails DVD, I finally got round to ordering a copy and now I've had a look, I have to to say it's a good watch. Featuring loads of trails from southern England - Epsom, Chertsey, Spooks, Rough Common.... Huh? That's right; our trails made it onto a DVD, although I for one had no idea they'd even been down to ride them! (Unfortunately we made it into the "Wee Lines 84" chapter - something to work on for 2007!)

But back to the DVD - some nice footage of some of the best trails around. Personally my favourite chapter is "Jays Yard", featuring Jay Aliano's garden trail jam which I believe was featured in Ride recently. This section showcases riders such as Scott Edgworth, James Brooks and Martin Murray, and their manualling skills over the pump hump/step-up step-down line just blew me away! If you need inspiration to dig/ride then it's right there in that chapter. Oh, and Dagger trails also made it in although I didn't spot any Ashford, which is a shame. **WARNING** Contains more than enough male nudity!

Chapters include:
1.Intro 2. Danny Magic 3.Wee Lines 84 4.Churtsey Trails 5.Winch Trails 6. Jays Yard 7.Spooks Trails 8.Jonny Robinsons 9.Swallowed 10.The End!

Well worth the £7 plus P&P, you can watch the trailer here: http://www.prettyshady.com/06/oct/threee-trailor.wmv

MORE WORK AT THE TRAILS

We've been busy again today down at Rough Common, with the first 3 jumps in the main line nearly complete. Check the before shot of Harry riding the hip (3rd) back in the summer and the up-to-date shot taken today!

Mikey and Chris also started on their new line, which promise some lengthy jumps if all goes to plan.

HERNE & BROOMFIELD UPDATE

A quick photo update, just to show that work's well underway at Broomfield...

360 degree panorama of the Broomfield Site 2 weeks in:

STURRY ROAD TRACK

All's stopped on the Sturry Road front as far as we're aware, with nothing happening over the past 2 weeks. As the recent weather has been predominantly wet, the track desperately needs dry weather for work to continue. Wrong time of year to build a track really, but as always we'll keep you updated.

SAVE OUR SKATEPARK UPDATE!

PRESS RELEASE:

VIVE LA REVOLUTION!

Thanet’s young skaters can look forward to years of fun after a deal was signed between Revolution Skatepark and Thanet Community Development Trust to secure its future.

A twenty five year deal was brokered by Cllr Chris Wells after it was feared during the summer that the park might close.

Cllr Wells said, “After many hours of individual discussion, and a number of meetings exploring every possible avenue, an agreement has

Dan Chapman, owner of the Skatepark, expressed his delight at achieving a long term lease and greater order to the outdoor arena. “The length of the lease makes investment in the park both more likely and more cost effective. Skaters can look forward to new and more exciting challenges, our future plans are very big, the sky’s the limit now - the next 5 years are about evolution as well as Revolution”. Mr. Chapman would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported the Skatepark over this time.

Keith Single of Thanet Community Development Trust said, “We’re delighted to have been able to play our part in keeping a Skatepark in Thanet; Chris Wells’ help was invaluable but the youngsters are the real winners”.

Cllr Wells said, “When people stop me in Broadstairs High Street now I can finally smile and say, yes it’s secure. Revolution is staying, and I know they will smile at a job well done”.

PECKHAM FUNDAY 2006

Peckham BMX Club are holding another BMX Racing/Funday event on Saturday 9th December.

Last year's event was excellent with some big names in attendance, and it's well worth a visit to experience BMX racing on the most urban track in the UK. You can't beat the Peckham crew for friendliness, so there's no excuse not to head down.

Other activities (besides racing), include King Of Dirt/Fun Of Dirt, Jumping Contest, Boxing Classes for Kids, Facepainting and a Bouncy Castle. Track address is Peckham BMX Track, Bird in the Bush Road, Peckam, London, SE15. Check out their website: www.peckhambmx.com

NORWICH REGIONAL PHOTOS

Myself, Russ and Roy travelled up to the Norwich regional on Sunday, and wow, what a track! For anyone who hasn't been there, you NEED to make the trip. A great track and a equally amazing group of people running things there. You can now find my photos from Norwich in the gallery.

MEDIA FRENZY

Following on from the article on the BBC website last week, the planned track at Broomfield (and EKBMX) has now appeared in the Herne Bay Times, accompanied by a couple of my photos. Stoked!

MAGGOT

I've just found a short video of Maggot (Mark Love) pulling a flair, on R-Kez's not so ghetto ramp setup in the Herne Bay market car park.

Check it out the main page of the new Federal site: http://www.federalbikes.com/new/index.html

ROUGH COMMON TRAILS

Today we've made a start on enlarging the relatively small 'main' line at Rough Common. As you can see from the photo the first landing is now bigger, but it'll still need a load more work when things get wetter.

HERNE & BROOMFIELD BMX TRACK - BBC NEWS WEBSITE

Thanks to Mark Mills for pointing out an article on the BBC News website all about the Herne and Broomfield BMX track project. It's just a short piece, but it shows the parish council are serious about making it work. Check it out:

WEBSITE RELAUNCH

For everyone who's been waiting here it is - the new look eastkentbmx.co.uk!

As the previous site was a couple of years old and as our requirments have changed somewhat since then, I felt it was time for a bit of a redesign. First think you'll notice is the look and layout of the site, but I've also added a messageboard so we can all communicate a little better as well as some more detailed information about BMX racing which I didn't quite get round to finishing on the previous version...

The gallery will continue to be an important part of the site, and hopefully I can get out and take loads more pictures soon. I'm also going to try and update the news page more frequently, so start checking back regularly.

Okay, first bits of news:

Hayes Winter Regional - 12th November 2006

There's a Southern Region Winter Series race this Sunday at Hayes. Race fees are £7 for Expert and £5 for Novice classes.
Registration closes at 11.30am and racing starts 12.45pm. For more details check out our race dates page or visit the Hawks website.

A New BMX Track for Kent

There's a new BMX track for Kent on the not so distant horizon, some of you already know about it and it's not going to be too long now before it comes a reality. East Kent BMX had a hand in the design of the track and it's built on a slight downhill gradient so expect something fun to ride soon! Check back soon for more details. (It's not Herne Bay, by the way!)
