It's been a while since the last update, but we've been enjoying ourselves too much with the new track!
It's been a long time coming, but finally it's arrived! Herne and Broomfield Parish Council have created something amazing - the track's already being hailed as one of the best in the country by some of the top riders, so get up there and check it out! We've been having some amazing sessions over the last few weeks, with visitors coming from far and wide for a look in.
Built to a Regional/National standard, the track has something for everyone - small jumps to massive jumps! The track is still awaiting completion of the start hill which is missing some tarmac and the starting gate, but otherwise the track is the finished article and is safe to ride. Although the area that the track is in is still a building site, it is okay to ride the track at the weekends - just please don't go up there during the week because there's heavy plant machinery working.
I'd personally like to say an early thanks to Herne and Broomfield Parish Council for putting the effort in to creating an amazing facility - a lot of councils are happy to just build any old rubbish without involving riders or doing any research, but Herne and Broomfield have done things properly and it shows in the favourable reviews that the track is getting!
There won't be any races taking place until the site is officially opened in the spring - we do still have to wait for things like the start gate and car parking area to be completed first. In the meantime head over to our messageboard if you want to know more about the track and about joining the club. For directions, head over to the Kent Tracks page.
I took a quick ride up to the site of the Herne & Broomfield BMX track this morning, and it's good to see how things are coming along! Deacons Landscaping company have created an amazing rectangular area for the track to sit in, which is surrounded on all four sides by earth bunds to keep the wind down. This turns it into a natural amphitheatre, which should make excellent viewing for racing. I've slotted in a track image in the photo above, to give a rough idea of how the track will be laid out (that's not the track design btw).
Above are 2 more photos showing the size of the track area - it's a lot bigger than I imagined it would be, and should be adequate for an excellent track layout! Expect things to start moving very soon!
We took a bit of a trails road trip yesterday starting at RC, then on to the Scruffian/Noidco trails down in SW Kent, before finishing up at Joey's in Ashford late afternoon. We had also planned to head down to Daggers, but due to illness and injury we never actually made it.
Thanks go out to Nigel for showng us the lines on our first visit their trails; they truely are fun to ride and we'll be heading back sometime soon as everyone had a blast. Here's some photos that Olly took yesterday:
With a still unknown amount of time left to ride Ashford trails, Paul Wilson has decided to go ahead and have a jam on the 9th September. Check the flyer above for more details. This could be the last ever jam at Ashford, so get down there and pay your respects to the most historic trails in Kent. Oh, and it's Paul's 30th birthday too!
Just a quick reminder that the Triplextreme comp (see 6th July news) is going down in Faversham this coming weekend. No rider list has been released prior to the event, but I'm sure Maggot will be there tearing things up amongst others. www.triplextreme.co.uk
The fifth round of the Hersden Summer Series is also taking place this weekend at Hersden BMX track. Head over to the race dates page for all the details. If you want to go a bit further afield, there's also a National race at Tredegar BMX Track in Wales. Again, there's more details on the race dates page.
Things were going off at the new Swalecliffe skatepark last night, as they have been for the past few days. The highlight of the evening was Terra jumping out of the bowl, over the large wooden fence and onto the mud the other side. Maggot also got it down too. Respect!
All the photos I took last night are now in the Gallery, go check them out. There's also a few more from Friday on the Messageboard.
The 'Coastal Skatepark' at Tankerton, Whitstable opened yesterday, and as predicted complete and utter carnage ensued! Every BMXer, skater and fruit booter in the local, and not so local vacinity must have been there. People dropping in on each other left, right and centre, and plenty of kids getting flattened made for a great day's entertainment!
Seriously though, it was amazing to see Maggot, Blake and Co. tearing up the bowl, and it was equally as awesome to see the skaters shredding it up too. I predict there's going to be some amazing times here once it's quietened down loads. Can't wait to get back down there with the camera, although I can see my remote flash taking some beatings!

Round 4 of the 2007 Hersden Race Series is taking place this Sunday 15th July, at the Hersden Youth Club track. These races are always fun and the track's perfect for beginners to have their first race on. Track and registration open from around 10am, £2.50 to enter.
More info/location can be found on our race dates page.
I've just reinstalled the gallery and uploaded a couple of photo sets - one of racing in the rain at Andover, and another from a session at Terry's trails.
More brand new photos to follow as soon as I've taken them!
Phase one of the promised Revolution Skatepark rebuild has been completed. This means an all new outside section, built entirely out of skatelite - even the floor. It looks pretty good, well done to Dan and the crew for getting it done. We look forward to the new inside changes. Check it: www.revolutionskatepark.co.uk .
They've also set a provisional date for their summer BMX comp which is Sunday 5th August. Get down their and support it!
Unreal skatepark are having a charity BMX, skate & inline competition in Faversham soon, presumably to try and raise some fund to keep the park running. There's some quick info below, but for the full lowdown check out their website: www.triplextreme.co.uk . The prize pot's pretty generous, if they get it advertised properly then it might be a good show!

After what seems like an eternity (6 months), the website is now back in action! We've had some issues with domain names and hosting, but now everything's sorted and the site will be back to bringing you regualer updates on BMX in Kent. Some news coming soon....
Head over to the messageboard for the most up-to-date info on what's happening in the world of BMX.
We took a trip to the South Region race at Andover today. A good day overall, some problems with the start gate which meant reverting back to the old "Riders Ready, Pedals Ready, Go!" starter. That's where all the Hersden riders had the advantage! Dan Pullen from Hersden was ripping on his new bike in his new race kit, jumping pretty much everything the olders riders were! Poor Terry Green broke a collarbone again - get well soon Terry!
As usual, I also took some photos today, you can find them in the Gallery.
I've just come across this up-to-date photo of Ashford trails. Looks like Paul & Co have been busy over the winter! Roll on summer.
Happy New Year to everyone and all that jazz! It's been promised for a good couple of years now, but 2007 will see BMX racing return to Herne Bay when the track is finally built in the summer. Hopefully Justin, Tony and the Hersden massive will continue with another race series at their track this year, and all being well this summer we'll hold another jam at Rough Common.
Speaking of Rough Common, more work today....
